Korean pianist Youl Sun will make his Carnegie Hall debut at Zankel Hall on October 29, 2026. Sun is the Gold Medalist of the 2024 Gina Bachauer International Artists Piano Competition, where he also received the Audience Choice Prize and Student Jury Prize. That same year, he won First Prize at the Seoul International Music Competition, followed in 2026 by Second Prize and the Prize for the Best Performance of a 20th-Century Work at the Ljubljana Festival International Piano Competition.
For his Carnegie Hall debut, Sun brings together music spanning contemporary voices and landmarks of the piano repertoire. The program opens with Gabriela Lena Frank’s Two Andean Portraits and Korean composer Texu Kim’s Pansori Fantasy, followed by Debussy’s complete Images, Books I and II. After intermission, Sun performs Liszt’s complete Transcendental Études, S. 139, a cycle of twelve études that brings together formidable technical demands and a remarkable range of musical character.
Sun has appeared at venues including the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Salle Cortot in Paris, Philharmonie Luxembourg, and Abravanel Hall, and has performed as a soloist with the Minnesota Orchestra, Utah Symphony, KBS Symphony Orchestra, and Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra. A graduate of the Schola Cantorum de Paris and the École Normale de Musique de Paris, he is currently pursuing the Master Soloist program at the Haute école de musique de Genève and chamber music studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris.
