The Korean Cultural Center New York (KCCNY), in collaboration with King Sejong Institute Center USA, is pleased to announce the launch of a new 10-week Online King Sejong Institute program.

Apply for a Course

Each course is a 10-week live online program that meets once a week from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. ET.

Courses and Schedules

• 10-week cousre, once a week (e.g. every Tuesday for 10 weeks)
• Course dates, including holiday closures and make-up classes, are subject to change. Any schedule updates will be communicated to enrolled students in advance.
• Applicants should ensure that they can regularly attend live online classes during the listed Eastern Time schedule.

Course Levels

Korean 1A — Beginning Korean, Part 1
For beginning learners with little or no prior Korean-language experience. The course introduces Hangeul and essential vocabulary, grammar, and expressions for self-introductions, everyday objects and activities, shopping, time, weather, and weekend plans.

Korean 1B — Beginning Korean, Part 2
For learners who have completed Korean 1A or possess equivalent proficiency. The course expands foundational communication skills through topics including preferences, shopping, directions and transportation, travel, health, gatherings, and gifts.

Both courses are part of the official beginner-level King Sejong Institute curriculum.

Eligibility

Applicants must:

• Reside in the United States
• Be at least 18 years old
• Be able to attend classes according to Eastern Time
• Apply for only one of the three courses. Applicants who apply for more than one course will be disqualified.
• Complete the official King Sejong Institute Korean Level Test and submit the requested result with their application. Applicants must complete the test before submitting their application

: You must complete the ‘Korean Level Test’ before and submit the result when submitting your application on 8 September. See below,
• The test consists of reading and listening sections and takes approximately 30–50 minutes.
• Using a computer is recommended. Before starting, ensure that you have a stable internet connection and a quiet environment for the listening section.
• Once you take the test, you cannot retake it for one month. Please prepare carefully before beginning.
• Save your test result. You must submit it with your course application.
• The Level Test page may load slowly. Please allow additional time for the page to open. If the direct test link does not load, visit the Nuri King Sejong Institute homepage and click [Korean Level Test].

Enrollment and Selection

• Each course requires at least 15 students and may enroll up to 30 students. A course may be canceled if minimum enrollment is not met.
• Applications will be reviewed in the order received, and application forms may close early once a sufficient number of submissions has been received.

NOTE: Submitting an application does not guarantee enrollment. Only applicants who meet the eligibility and application requirements will be considered. Selected applicants will be notified by email.

Application Schedule

Applications will open on the KCCNY website on: Tuesday, September 8, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. ET

Selected applicants will receive an enrollment confirmation email on Tuesday, September 16, 2026. Information regarding required textbooks will be provided separately to confirmed students. Please note that students who accumulate three unexcused absences may be withdrawn from the course. When operationally feasible, the available seat may be offered to an applicant on the waitlist.

Lastly, when filling out the application, please make sure you use the same name and email address that you used for the Korean Level Test.
