The Korean Cultural Center New York (KCCNY) is thrilled to announce the inaugural New York Korean Independent Film Festival (NYKIFF), running from Thursday, October 15 through Sunday, October 25, 2026.

NYKIFF aims to introduce a wide array of vibrant, contemporary Korean independent cinema and distinctive emerging voices to New York audiences. We are currently seeking passionate, dedicated, and cinema-loving volunteers to join our festival team and support on-site operations.

Overview

  • Recruitment Period: Open until Sunday, October 4, 2026 (Applications reviewed on a rolling basis; may close early if positions are filled)

  • Role: Film Festival Operations Volunteer

  • Festival Dates: Thursday, October 15 – Sunday, October 25, 2026

  • Location: Korean Cultural Center New York (122 E 32nd St., New York, NY 10016)

Applicants can specify their available dates and shifts within the application form.
Final shift assignments and specific roles will be determined based on festival scheduling and individual availability.
Selected volunteers are required to attend a mandatory orientation and training session prior to the festival opening.

The Korean Cultural Center New York is now accepting applications for its 2026 second-half volunteer program. We welcome applications from individuals interested in supporting our cultural programs and activities.


Key Responsibilities

Volunteers will support frontline audience services and day-to-day festival floor operations, including:

  • Greeting guests and handling audience inquiries on-site

  • Assisting with RSVP verification and ticketing/badge check-in

  • Theater ushering: queue line management, admitting/discharging audiences, and directing seat placement

  • Managing waitlist / walk-in queues

  • Providing general program and screening schedule information

  • Assisting with venue setup, staging turnover, and post-screening reset

  • Supporting Guest Visits (GV), director Q&As, and special festival programs

  • Assisting staff with other operational needs as required


Qualifications & Requirements

We welcome all applicants who meet the following criteria:

  • Must be 18 years of age or older at the time of application and reside in the New York metropolitan area.

  • Passionate about Korean cinema, independent films, and arts & cultural programming.

  • Available to commit to a minimum of 4 days during the festival period (October 15–25, 2026).

  • Available to attend the mandatory orientation/training session ahead of the festival.

  • Strong interpersonal skills, reliable work ethic, and a customer-friendly, welcoming demeanor.

  • Fluent in English with the ability to communicate clearly and assist attendees effectively.


*Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bilingual fluency in Korean and English (preferred, but not required).

  • Prior experience in film festivals, performing arts, cultural institutions, event production, or volunteering is a plus.


Timeline & Process

  • Application Deadline: Sunday, October 4, 2026 (11:59 PM EDT)

  • Selection Notification: Individual notifications sent to selected candidates via email

  • Orientation & Briefing: Pre-festival session (Dates and details will be shared directly with selected volunteers)

  • Festival Service Period: Thursday, October 15 – Sunday, October 25, 2026

You do not need to be available every single day of the festival. Final schedules will be scheduled based on your availability and operational requirements.
Schedule and assigned duties are subject to change depending on festival circumstances.


Volunteer Obligations

  • Attend the mandatory orientation and pre-festival training.

  • Adhere strictly to assigned shifts and scheduled times.

  • Follow festival operating guidelines and staff instructions during shifts.

  • Wear official volunteer credentials/uniform items provided during service.

▢ 지원자격

다음 조건을 충족하는 분이라면 누구나 지원할 수 있습니다.

  1. 지원 시점 기준 만 18세 이상이며 뉴욕 및 인근 지역에 거주하는 분

  2. 한국영화, 독립영화, 영화제 및 문화행사에 관심이 있는 분

  3. 영화제 기간인 2026년 10월 15일~25일 중 최소 4일 이상 참여 가능한 분

  4. 영화제 개최 전 진행되는 오리엔테이션 및 사전 교육에 참석 가능한 분

  5. 관객과 원활하게 소통하며 책임감 있게 현장 업무를 수행할 수 있는 분

  6. 영어로 기본적인 관객 안내 및 의사소통이 가능한 분

※ 한국어 의사소통이 가능한 지원자를 우대하나 필수 조건은 아닙니다.
※ 영화제, 공연, 문화행사, 행사 운영 및 자원봉사 경험이 있는 지원자를 우대합니다.
