Korean Cultural Center New York presents a one-of-a-kind exhibition, PASSION. CONTINUED: A Wave of Peace from Korea to the World in celebration of the PyeongChang 2018 Olympic & Paralympic Games.

Korea becomes the hub of Asia for both sports and cultural arts as the “Olympic Wave” surges from Korea to Asia, then to the world. Representing the Olympic and Paralympic values of peace and unity, hundreds of artists of all backgrounds have come together to present a resounding message of hope for the world.

The PASSION. CONTINUED exhibition brings together a total of 200 artists from all over the world, not only from New York and the United States, but also 100 rising artists from Korea, Japan, and China, where the Olympic games will be held in order, respectively; the PyeongChang Winter Games are being held in 2018, followed by the 2020 Tokyo Summer Games, and the 2022 Beijing Winter Games.

The title of this exhibition,  PASSION. CONTINUED refers to the official slogan of the Olympic & Paralympic Winter Games PyeongChang 2018, “Passion. Connected.” as it “refers to a world in which everyone is connected with shared passion for winter sports — a world open to any generation anywhere and anytime, in order to open new horizons in the continued growth of winter sports” (from the PyeongChang 2018 official website).

For the helmet installation portion of the exhibition, 100 winter sport helmets have been artistically interpreted in celebration of the Games, with each of the 100 participating artists from New York and beyond creating their own unique artwork inspired by the officially designated Olympic keywords: harmony, people, passion, possibility, fairness, peace, advancement, movement, play, power, balance, joy, drama, challenge, and sports.

The poster collection, featuring 34 Korean, 33 Chinese, and 33 Japanese poster artists, is one that has been specially curated by Professor Kyungkyun Kim of the Korea National University of the Arts, and highlights the key message of bringing a dynamic, powerful “wind” or wave of mutual understanding, tolerance, and friendship that originates from Korea and spreads worldwide. With the synergistic effect of the 200 participating artists from all over the world, PASSION. CONTINUED embraces unity and sets in motion a wave of peace through art.
