In the shadows of modern-day Seoul, four gifted individuals—a priest, a telekinetic woman, a grieving brother, and a magical prodigy—stand as the last line of defense against supernatural threats. As they confront dark forces ranging from possessions to vampires, their growing powers are tested by an ancient evil awakening from the depths.

The Korean Cultural Center New York proudly presents Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning as part of its New Korean Movie Night series—an ongoing program dedicated to showcasing diverse Korean and Korean American cinematic voices. Through feature films, documentaries, short films and independent productions, the series aims to broaden access to and appreciation of Korean cinema in New York City.

A supernatural fantasy-action film based on Korea’s No.1 best-selling fiction series Toemarok(literal translation: Exorcism Diary), Exorcism Chronicles: The Beginning delivers a riveting narrative set in a world haunted by spirits—seen and fought by only a chosen few. With over 10 million books sold and 238 million online views, the story has become a cultural phenomenon, now brought to the screen by Locus Animation Studios.

Directed in a dynamic cartoon-rendered style, this film introduces global audiences to Korean mythologies, high-octane action, and unforgettable characters, including excommunicated priest Father Park, the fated warrior Jang Joon-hoo, and Seung-hee Hyun, a woman bearing the power of a god.
