Drawing on Hak-ki Bang's famous comic strip, director Yun-ho Yang turned the mythic life of Bae-dal Choi (1922 -1994) into a hugely successful martial arts thriller. The 2004 film portrays Choi's journey from a Korean farm boy who learns to fight from his father's farmhand, to a martial arts master who defeats top Japanese masters.
