This children's program will introduce the works of Korean Embroidery, especially Korean Official’s Rank Badge (흉배: hyoongbae). The Korean Rank Badge is a panel of embroidery that indicates the status of the government official in the Joseon Dynasty (1392 – 1910). Civil officers had crane patterns which symbolized integrity while military officers had tiger patterns which represented bravery. In this workshop, students will design their own hyoongbae by coloring and decorating T-shirts with hyoongbae patterns. Participants will be able to take home their newly made T-shirts afterwards!
