Rin Seo will lead her brand-new 14-piece jazz chamber orchestra. She will illustrate her journey of self-discovery and will feature her own thoughts regarding the meaning and struggles of life, as well as greater social issues through her music. 

Tracy Yang will showcase her 17-piece jazz orchestra and feature select pieces from her 'Scene Taiwan' Collection, including a world premiere funded by the Queens Arts Fund. With two distinct ensembles, they unite some of the city's finest musicians, cultivating their individual voices and sounds within their compositions.

Set against the backdrop of Queens' dynamic jazz history, this event serves as a significant link to the borough's artistic heritage. ◆ Performers

Rin Seo
Rin Seo is a New York-based Korean composer whose works range from modern improvised music to contemporary classical. The broad-spectrum of her works proves an extraordinary understanding of diverse musical languages. Her music combines eclectic musical idioms and blurs musical boundaries with her own musical color. She holds a Bachelor of Music in Classical Composition from the Sookmyung Women’s University. After being awarded a scholarship from the Berklee College of Music, she moved to the United States and received a Professional Diploma from the school. Seo studied with Jim McNeely, a Grammy award-winning jazz composer, during a Master's degree at the Manhattan School of Music. Seo’s awards and honors include ASCAP Herb Alpert Young Jazz Composer Award(2020), DownBeat magazine Student Music Award(2020), and BMI Booker Scholarship for young jazz artists(2019). She also received numerous grants from the New York Foundation for the Arts, the Korean Cultural Center New York, and the Seoul Foundation for Arts and Culture.

Tracy Yang
Born and raised in Taiwan, Tracy Yang has established herself as a jazz pianist and composer in New York. She has collaborated with esteemed ensembles such as The Army Jazz Ambassadors, BMI/New York Jazz Orchestra, SWOJO, and Taipei Jazz Orchestra. Recognized with the Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize, she's also been honored with grants from respected institutions like New Music USA, New York Foundation for the Arts, and Pathways to Jazz. In addition to her musical accomplishments, Yang's expertise extends to the dance world, where she collaborates with renowned dance institutions, counting among them Martha Graham, Paul Taylor, Mark Morris, Juilliard School, ABT JKO School, and Dance Theater of Harlem, to name a few. Her jazz quartet EP, "The 217 Diaries", debuted in 2021, setting the stage for her eagerly awaited jazz orchestra album, "OR", anticipated to be released in mid-2024.
