This bittersweet romance is the directorial debut of Hak-sun Kim, who starred in Sang-soo Hong’s 2002 Turning Gate. Isolated and estranged from outside life, the hero retires from his busy career to run a video rental shop. Besides brief passing contacts with others, his only connection is with the movies that he rents and watches at home. He finally regains a measure of hope when a mysterious love letter is sent to him, but he, with the audience, must figure out the identity of the author.
Praised for its score and cinematography, Rewind was selected for the Competition of Continents division at the 2002 Montreal World Film Festival, and also screened at the Shanghai International Film Festival.
Guest speaker Ms. Hyun-Ock Im will give a brief introduction to the film and lead a discussion session afterwards.
Admission is free for this non-ticketed event. The film is in Korean with English subtitles. RSVP suggested: (212) 759-9550. For more information or to confirm times, please visit the Korean Cultural Service New York website at www.koreanculture.org or call (212) 759-9550.
