 Hello,

We inform you that there is a class on Korean traditional craft hand making such as Chogakpo (the Korean traditional patchwork), pouch, pin cishion, woman's hat, Korean traditional socks, cell phone case, cushion, thimble, Korean knot in New York and New Jersey for first and second generation Korean Americans and their families (including non-Korean family members), adopted Koreans and their families, and bi-racial/bi-cultural Korean American people. You can learn how to natural dye to silk with natural material.

Chogakpo is a form of Korean patchwork originating from the 14th century when women then used up their scraps of silk, cotton, rami or linen from making clothes to make wrapping cloths and covers called 'Pojagi'. These cloths were used for wrapping many things including precious articles, clothes, bedding and for covering tables of food.
Chogakpo(pieces po) was made by sewing small pieces of cloth togather. It is made from pieces of square material with a multitude of crossing lines and smaller section.
Scraps were sewn together with little regard for pattern or color creating beautiful abstract designs not unlike many mordern paintings.
The cloth was by no means common and very expensive in the past. So women wove cloth out of thread with their own hands for family. Since it needed long time and manual labor to wove a suit of clothes, they reused small pieces of cloth left over for pojagi. It used by common people. It contains the spirit of the saving and recycling.

The fabric(silk) material with silk thread, needle, fabric pencle will be provided. By the end of sessions, you will complete some Korean traditional craft works.

The cost for 9 weeks is 450 dollars.
