During spring, a child monk audaciously stacks rocks on a frog's back. During summer, a young boy falls in love with a girl who comes to the Buddhist monastery to convalesce. During fall, a young man returns to the monastery as a murderer. During winter, a man practices the art of Zen on a chilly mountain. It is spring again, and an old monk raises a child. Set against the dreamlike background of a monastery that stands in the middle of a forest, the film presents panoramic portraits of life that flow with the four seasons.
